What’s the special thing that reminds you of your mom?
I catch myself in moments of memories flashing back to me when I’m having time with my own children. Things my mother did with me when we were young and realizing how parallel my life has become to her. I love dancing and being goofy with my kids which reminds me of my mom. She loves life and always makes things so much fun!
What makes you feel close to her?
I can tell her anything without feeling judged and she always gives me good advice that is godly advice, I know she’s prayed about. I also feel close with her seeing her with my kids. She loves them so much and treats them like her own kids.
Is there a special thing you do with your children to celebrate Mother’s Day?
We always celebrate Mother’s Day with brunch! We go to church and then head to spend the day with family then go on the boat or do something fun outdoors.
Would you like to share a memory of a Mother’s Day? A gift you remember?
My very first Mother’s Day with the twins.. I waited through 5 years of Mother’s Day celebrations to be able to celebrate this holiday. Malachi was in the NICU and came home on Mother’s day weekend which was the best gift ever.
Motherhood points out so many flaws, it points out our selfishness, our pride, our temper, our busyness. Being a mom points out flaws, but it does more than just point out our own weakness. It points out Christ’s strength and His perfection. Our failure points us to Him. Being a mom points us to the gospel. The gospel displayed the most perfect love, and everyday Jesus loves us despite our failings as mothers. He reminds us that we can’t do it all, only He can do that.
We are weak, but He is strong. When we hide our weakness, we hide His strength. When we are honest about our weakness, we let Christ’s grace and strength work through us. When we are honest about our weakness as mothers we preach the gospel to our children, and to those around us, that Jesus will do what we can not do. His power is made perfect in our weakness.
Mama, you are a work in progress; He is not through with you yet. Mother’s Day does not mean you’ve arrived at but an arrow that points to all that Christ is transforming in you through the sanctifying journey of motherhood.
So take heart, friend. This day is ultimately not about you, or your mothering, or the mothers in your life. It’s about the story Jesus is choosing to write through the picture of motherhood in and around your life. And that’s worth celebrating…and He is still writing your story!
